SUMMARY:March & April 2026 | Pam Fetzner Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Pam Fetzner’s Art Will Be On Display During March & April 2026\nStop in to Maquoketa Art Experience to view Pam’s art in the South Gallery during March & April. Her art includes landscapes\, florals\, abstract\, and wildlife images.\nJoin us for an Artists’ Reception on March 7\, 2026 from 2 to 4 pm.\n \nABOUT PAM FETZNER:\nI’m an artist who’s absolutely in love with color. Whether it’s splashing vibrant hues across a canvas or creating digital wonders\, I’m all about capturing the joy\, beauty\, and energy of the world around us. I’ve been at this for over 30 years now\, and let me tell you\, the journey has been nothing short of amazing.\nMy artistic adventures began as a fun hobby—just me\, some paint\, and a wild imagination. Fast forward a few decades\, and what started as a personal escape has blossomed into a full-time creative passion. I’m mostly self-taught\, learning as I go\, experimenting with acrylics\, oils\, alcohol ink\, and digital tools. My work is a mix of landscapes\, flowers\, and anything else that catches my eye in nature. I’m drawn to the little details—the way light dances through the trees\, the burst of color in a field of flowers\, or the subtle textures that make everything pop.\nBut it’s not just about technique for me. My art is all about feeling—capturing moments that make you stop\, smile\, and maybe even see the world a little differently. I love playing with contrasts: light and shadow\, bold colors and soft tones\, structure and fluidity. Each piece is a little story\, a snapshot of a moment\, a splash of my personality on the canvas or screen.\nOver the years\, my work has made its way into galleries\, exhibitions\, and private collections around the world—something that still makes me pinch myself! But honestly\, I’m just a creative soul having fun\, always learning\, and forever chasing that next burst of inspiration. Whether I’m painting in my studio or crafting digitally\, I’m on a never-ending journey to explore\, evolve\, and share a bit of my colorful world with you.

SUMMARY:July & August | Take Me to the Mountains - Original collages and enlargements | Amber Williams
DESCRIPTION:Amber Williams will have her art on display in the South Gallery at Maquoketa Art Experience during the months of July and August\, 2025. \nThe public is invited to meet Amber during an Artist’s Reception on July 13th from 2 to 4 pm at Maquoketa Art Experience. The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available. Donations are always welcome.\nI spent all of my memorable life searching for a something that was found somewhere in the Rocky Mountains\, during a magical week in May\, 2021… \nA much needed respite introduced me to the Rocky Mountains\, seen in person for the first time\, during that very tender week of awe.  There was a certainty in knowing that there was no need to search again.  All was found\, and love for life was felt in every beating cell. \nThe resulting series of 12” x 12” collages were intentionally left just as tender\, leaving hints of all processes exposed: bare gesso\, pencil sketches\, layers of ink transfer\, and then finally layers of traditional collage methods.  I wanted to imitate that feeling of a precious photograph kept in a drawer\, slightly blemished over time\, after years of revisiting the good times again and again.  I have always been prematurely nostalgic. \nEnlarged archival proofs were printed to be displayed alongside the originals\, emphasizing patterns and textures. Custom prints can be ordered by request. \nUnless otherwise noted\, originals are ready to hang in walnut floater frames. \nContact: artbyamberwilliams@gmail.com \n      \n         \n      \nAbout Amber Williams: \nCollage has been my preferred form of artistic expression since childhood. I rediscovered my passion and have been refining my skills since 2010. I create landscapes\, both real and imaginary\, and will occasionally create other compositions and commissions as well. My collage methods are self-taught and have evolved over time. Primary source materials are security envelope patterns\, magazines\, and books.  Since so much of human history is documented by the trash created\, my process is an unintentional wink to my previous studies of Anthropology. Compositions start with deconstructing materials by color\, pattern\, shape\, etc. More often than not\, I go in attempting to create depth. My preferred tool is scissors\, and I also use a variety of hole punch shapes. Substrate is typically wood panel. Currently I use Liquitex gel medium for assemblage\, followed by a top coat for additional protection. Some collages include layers of polycrylic image transfer\, a method learned from a colleague in 2019. With all of my collages\, I take the opportunity to let my mind wander—revisiting memories and imaging purpose. Art saves.

SUMMARY:July & August 2025 | Suspended Ascent: A collection of paintings\, sculpture and written works | Laura Vincent-Arnold
DESCRIPTION:Laura Vincent-Arnold will have her artwork on display at Maquoketa Art Experience during the months of July and August\, 2025.\nThe public is invited to meet Laura during an Artist’s Reception on July 13th from 2 to 4 pm at Maquoketa Art Experience. The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available. Donations are always welcome.\n                           \nArtist Statement: \nThere is a dance when light fragments in the breeze\, a heaviness of sadness like walking through water\, a deep buoyant breath of hope…that is the way I experience life and respond to the world through my work.  It is where my art making process begins. \nThrough a combination of figure and environment\, I record the nuances of emotion and life experiences that cannot be captured in words alone.  I gather content through my time in nature and my studies of the human figure. Painting with an idea but not with a plan\, I enjoy the energy that results and the visual language that takes shape.  The process becomes a dance between light and dark each in turn taking the lead. \nI believe that art is a means of connection and speaks when there are no words.

SUMMARY:May & June 2025 | Brad Bisbey Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Brad Bisbey will have his art on display in the\nOsterhaus Family Gallery at MAE during May & June 2025.\nBrad studied painting with Daniel Greene in Chicago and currently teaches painting at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport\, Iowa.\nAn Artist’s Reception will be held on Saturday\, May 3rd from 2 to 4. Please join Maquoketa Art Experience as we welcome Brad Bisbey. Light refreshments will be served. The gallery and the reception are free and open to the public.\n             \nArtist’s Statement: I began painting over 60 years ago and quickly learned that simply recreating a figure or landscape photorealistic was not satisfying. I have always sought to go beyond the surface appearance and into that underlying unseen. The spark of life is to be found in this spiritual attitude. \nI graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport\, Iowa and studied painting with Daniel Greene in Chicago. I currently teach painting at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport\, Iowa. \nFor me\, painting is a search and a response. As long as I remain awake to the world and people around me\, I can be more aware of my response. My work is the result of this search and response. \nThe reason I paint is best found in the painting. The emotion is expressed with the brush. I love the spontaneity of seeing brushwork on the canvas and knowing that moment in time will remain unchanged.

DESCRIPTION:Join us to view Jenny Braig’s collection of paintings during May and June\, 2025.\nJenny’s artwork will be on display in the South Gallery and is free to the public to enjoy. \nThe paintings created for this exhibit are landscapes from the great plains\, works celebrate the State Parks and Jenny Braig’s love of the places she’s visited.  From Custer State Park in western SD to Palisades State Park in eastern SD\, to Backbone State Park in IA\, the Maquoketa Caves\, Swiss Valley\, and many more in between; these places influence her work.\nAn Artist’s Reception will be held on Saturday\, May 3rd from 2 to 4. Please join Maquoketa Art Experience as we welcome Jenny Braig. Light refreshments will be served. The gallery and the reception are free and open to the public.\n                     \n \n    \nJenny’s landscapes are built out of paint. When she layers the paint and then sketches into the surface it reveals the layers of colors. Working the paint\, building and creating areas textures and patterns until the surface is a sculptural relief in oil. The texture in Jenny’s paintings create a visual dissonance\, a battle between surface and depth. Jenny hopes that when people see her work they are reminded of the places they have been. The sneaky little spots full of trees\, saved for us.\n  \nAbout the author:  \nJenny Braig grew up in Dubuque IA. The Mississippi River and the tributaries in the tri-state area were her stomping grounds. She grew up fishing in the lakes and creeks\, camping\, hiking and swimming. She stayed in Dubuque and got a degree from Loras College. Her experiences growing up have influenced her love of landscapes; a love of nature\, and water\, and an attention to the details and patterns of life. \nJenny moved across the great plains\, from the eastern edge along the Mississippi to the western edge. She made a home in Spearfish\, South Dakota in the Black Hills\, and has lived there for 30 years. She is a full time artist and music teacher.

SUMMARY:March & April 2025 | Home and Away | Laura Larabee Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:COMING MARCH 6TH!\nHome and Away: Laura Larabee Exhibit\nMonticello artist\, Laura Larabee\, will have her paintings on display during the months of March and April 2025. Her paintings will hang in the South Gallery of Maquoketa Art Experience.\nAn Artist’s Reception will be held on Sunday\, March 9th from 2 to 4 pm.\nThe reception is free and open to the public. No RSVP is necessary. Please join us to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments.  \nLaura Larabee was raised on a farm overlooking the Mississippi River near Sabula\, Iowa. She completed a double major in fine art and teaching at Cornell College\, Mt. Vernon\, Iowa\, with later courses at Wayne State in Nebraska. She also has taken workshops by nationally known artists\, John Seerey-Lester\, Carel P. Brest Van Kempen and J.F. Landsdowne. She taught K-12 art in Nebraska for two years before moving to Iowaand opening her own studio. As an artist\, Larabee shows her work at art fairs\, exhibitions\, galleries and through commissions. \nCheck out Laura’s website at lauralarabeestudio.com \n            \n          \nArtist’s Statement: \nWhat happens when an artist travels? Are they attracted to the same subject matter? Paint in the same style? Does anything change? Travel brings transformation. How does this affect art? These are the questions I asked myself as I brought this exhibit together. My artwork is regional in subject matter with a focus on rural landscapes. But I also love to travel\, and have traveled to many places around the world and in the U.S. Trudging along my camera\, pencils and paints on my travels is standard. I found that the landscape wherever I’m at still competes for my attention the most\, but to my chagrin\, what really interested me was all the usual tourist views that everybody looks at! I happily snap and sketch the Grand Canyon\, and Inspiration Falls and Stonehenge just like everybody else. When I do paintings of my travels\, my style remains the same. I apply the colors and brush work the same. No epiphanies here! But I still have a compulsion to paint and share what I experienced as if I had something new to say. Why? Although the sites may be seen by thousands of people\, what is different about where you’re from to where you are visiting is the very atmosphere itself. The color\, light and density of air changes\, and that is really what I was feeling. The Badlands were violent that night. The Australian coastline was cold\, noisy with a black and white light that was difficult to see\, You could feel that the sun was closer. England was soft and damp with a chill that never let up. The southwest is bright red with air that is so light it can make you dizzy. Compare this with our heavy\, hazy\, green Iowa. So travel. Enjoy the sights\, but take note of the air\, color and light. That’s what the artist will be seeing.

SUMMARY:Art Figures of the Quad Cities | Dolls on Display
DESCRIPTION:Stop in to view the creative interpretations made by the talented Art Figures Group of the Quad Cities.\nTheir collections will be on display during the months of October and November.\nThere will be an opportunity to visit with this creative group on Sunday\, October 6th from 2 pm to 4 pm at an Artists Reception.\nMaquoketa Art Experience is free and open-to-the-public. \nEveryone is welcome to view the Exhibit\, as well as to join us at the Artists Reception. No RSVP is needed to attend. \n                        \nThe Art Figures Group of the Quad Cities began with a small group of women in\n1998 that were interested in creating cloth dolls and animals. The group’s\ncreativity has expanded over the years to include constructing figures using many\ndifferent mediums.\nMembers create traditional\, fantasy and art figures that are adorned with beautiful\nmaterial or not\, assorted threads and trims\, beads\, buttons\, laces\, broken jewelry\,\nunusual finds and a bounty of accessories.\nThe membership meets monthly (except for December) and prepares and uses a\nyearly calendar of activities which include competitive challenges\, round-robins\,\nlessons on using new techniques and materials\, workshops taught by visiting\nprofessionals\, and creating child friendly dolls and animals which are donated and\ndistributed to various charities in the community.\nSome years we have been fortunate enough to contract a professional doll maker to\ncome to the Quad Cities for a 2-3 day workshop developing a new idea and\npossibly offering some new techniques using different mediums.\nThe Art Figure members are a collection of very creative and imaginative women\nwho come from all different occupations. The members of this group are most\ncomfortable with introducing and sharing their creative ideas with each other. Each\nmeeting is filled with discussions\, a possible project\, show and tell and just sharing\ntheir ideas for developing a new figure.\nThe Group meets on the fourth Thursday of each month (except November and\nDecember) at 601 Brady Street\, Room 121\, in Davenport\, Iowa. If you are\ninterested in joining our group please contact- Suekirk21@yahoo.com or\nDebcraig.veber@gmail.com\n  \nHere’s information on each of the club members: \n \nGeorgeann Younggren Kreiter\nAs a child I was very interested in dolls\, both collecting and occasionally creating ones. Since becoming a member of the Davenport doll club and creating art figures it has opened my mind to trying new materials and various techniques. When creating an art doll\, I imagine an image but as I go through the process my figure wants to go in another direction and it\nbecomes something different from what I had originally planned. Since 1979 I have always created an annual Christmas tree ornament for each member of the family. I also enjoy making Christmas cards. The holiday items that I create give me so much incentive to create more interesting items\, especially art figures. \n \nColleen Curry\nA Donahue\, Iowa artist and is one of the four founding members of the “Art Figures of the Quad Cities” in 1998. Originally it was called “Hello Dollies”. While others create “soft or clay figures”\, I was never content with this process and began experimenting with many types of media that I would come across. My current “Shoe” exhibit here is a series of\nexperiments with what I could do with coordinating doll figures and putting shoes together. Satire and humor are important ingredients for me in all that I create. Obviously\, I have just scratched the surface. \n \nDeb Veber\nDeb is a Moline\, Illinois artist who has created one-of-a-kind art figures for the last thirty years. Deb uses wire\, foil\, clay and/or found objects to form the body. The face\, hands and feet are individually sculpted from polymer\, air-dry or epoxy clays. The figure is then costumed with a variety of materials\, such as beads\, fabric\, antique trims and other unique objects. \n \nSue Kirk\nSue is a Davenport artist that creates in a variety of mediums. Her grandmother taught her to embroider samplers when she was 4 years old. After learning that craft she was given instructions in tatting\, crochet\, knitting\, sewing on a treadle machine\, and cutting quilt blocks by the time she was 8. Her first high school art figure was made in plastic which resembled her favorite dog. Sue ran a ceramics class for 13 years teaching carving\, clay lifting\, glazing and making fused and sagged glass plates for\nspecial occasions. She also enjoys creating in many medias including- stained glass\, fused glass pendants\, Zen Tangles\, ice and tie-dyeing fabrics (including t-shirts)\, kumohimo\, drawing\, sculpting figures\, and painting. She makes quilts and finishes them using her longarm quilt machine. Sue creates a variety of scrappy quilts for charity\, for the quilt guild and teaches quilting and sewing at the VA Outreach center. Sue joined the Art Figures group about ten years ago. And creates figures using many different medias-clay\, fabric\, fiber\, gourds\, paints\, stuffing\, wire and metal pieces. \n \nRosalie Baker\nRosalie is a retired commercial artist and lives in Davenport Iowa. She is a member of the original “Quad Cities Art Figure” group that began in 1998. Her interest lies in creating dolls and animals. Rosalie enjoys many other interesting media including crafts\, and both watercolor and oil painting. She is a prize-winning pictorial quilt artist including receiving several “Best of\nShow” awards at several local\, national and international quilt exhibits. Her various quilts have been exhibited at the Museum of the American Quilters Society and as well as also published in their annual Art Calendar. Rosalie’s quilts received recognition in the 2010 published book entitled “500 Art Quilts”. \n \nBecky McDonald\nBecky McDonald is a current resident of Dubuque\, Iowa. She has resided in different locations over the years\, her last residency was Florida\, where she owned and operated a vintage and collectable store called “Becky’s Attic Treasures”. Becky has enjoyed creative endeavors since childhood. She has the ability and imagination to discover interesting items\, which\nproceeds from a simple object to creating an artistic statement. Becky has always been interested in various forms of art and has worked with a variety of mediums. Her favorite mediums are working with clay\, fibers and metal. New to creating art figures\, Becky uses a plethora of artistic techniques to create her images. \n \nJoan DuBay-Tully\nJoan resides in Dubuque\, Iowa and is a professional artist with over 65 years of creating in many different mediums ranging from painting and sculptures to etchings and unique fiber art. She has continued to increase her artistic knowledge throughout the years by taking classes and workshops in various disciplines that she enjoys. In 1983\, Joan began working with fabric designing and producing “art quilts” and she has been exploring the boundaries with fiber ever since. She enjoys discovering and developing various techniques using an assortment of fibers\, art mediums\, thread embellishments\, metals\, painting\, beads\, papers and found objects. Joan has worked in both two and three dimensions\, integrating traditional and\ninnovative techniques into her art quilts and sculptures. In general\, she does figurative work\, frequently drawing upon her immense imagination\, creativity\, and talent to incorporate color\, texture and whimsy into her original- one- of- a- kind-\npieces (OOAK). Joan’s artistic creations and fiber art pieces have been featured in several local\, state and national shows and publications. In addition\, she has won acclaim at many juried arts\, fiber\, figurative and quilt shows\, and competitions throughout the United States. She has exhibited and sold her works nationwide in galleries and other show venues. \n \nBrenda Christner\nBrenda is a transplant artist from Iowa City now residing in Dubuque\, Iowa. She enjoys working in several medias\, but her favorites are fiber arts\, glass\, paper\, acrylic and watercolor painting\, clays\, and collage. I am new to the Dubuque area and have met several creative people who have guided me into joining in a few creative pursuits\, such as creating art figures. I love to learn new techniques and how to include them in my creations. I have learned how to use air dry and polymer clays\, gourds and how to incorporate paper fabric and beads into my designs. I love imagining an idea and finding different techniques to use in my creations. \n \nJackie Goodrich\nIn 2011 Jackie relocated from her childhood home of Seattle\, Washington to her new residence in Dubuque\, Iowa. Since childhood Jackie has involved herself in many creative activities. As a youngster she learned to sew\, and her grandmother taught her how to knit. Jackie spends her time involved in a variety of interests including spinning wool into yarn (she\nclaims to be a want-a-be weaver too)\, also crochet and knitting\, fiber arts as well as quilting\, designing in glass\, and camping in her tear drop camper. \nOn many days Jackie can be seen hitting the road with her biking friends\, just enjoying the great outdoors. As an accomplished biker\, she peddled not once but three times on the 200-mile\, two-day trip from Seattle to Portland\, in a biking event. This girl loves to travel. Her passport includes a variety of international places and traveling across the USA. \nJackie is new to creating art figures and still learning the various techniques in working with a variety of clays to complete her interesting figures. With her imagination\, she will go far beyond the ordinary.

I gravitate towards nature themes such as landscapes\, mountains\, and stormy seas.\nOther times you may see me trying to capture the chaos in surrealism. I aim to confront fears\, trauma\, and nightmares. In life\, we must remind ourselves that we learn from both the good and difficult times. SUMMARY:Creativity Through Art and Music | Ryan Olsen
DESCRIPTION:View the intricate wood carvings of Idaho’s Ryan Olsen from June 10-15\, 2024 at Maquoketa Art Experience. Be sure to join Ryan on June 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for an artist’s reception.\nAdmission is always free and open-to-the-public.\n                  \n  \nAbout Ryan Olsen: \n \nRyan first became interested in carving when he was very young. When he was only seven\, he had his very own pocket knife that he had found in the dirt and kept hidden from his parents. Ryan and the neighbor kids would sit in the shade during long summer days and carve bark that they pried off of the family pine tree. He began carving seriously while he was earning his master’s degree in opera at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.  Ryan carved on his own for the first five years or so.  His best tools were snap-off razor blades because “they always had a sharp point.”  After too many snap-off accidents\, he upgraded to Xacto knives and ground-off steak knives.   \nOne of Ryan’s greatest experiences in carving was his first carving class at the Idaho Woodcarver’s rendezvous with one of his heroes and fellow CCA carver\, Cleve Taylor.  After studying with Cleve\, he caught on fire and his carving began to improve.  Since then\, he has studied with Dave Stetson\, Dave Dunham\, Phil and Vicki Bishop\, Pete Leclair\, Chris Hammack\, and repeatedly with Marv Kaisersatt.  Since then\, Ryan has won a number of competitions.  He has become known for his innovative\,  clean style and his ability to capture female subjects in wood. \nOne of Ryan’s greatest joys in woodcarving is participating in the Caricature Carvers of America. He loves meeting with fellow caricature carvers each year at different destinations around the country. Ryan serves as  the Chairman over the annual CCA Caricature Carving Competition in Converse\, Indiana.  \nHe stays busy running a high school choir program in Kuna\, Idaho.  Whenever he is able\, he travels the country to teach woodcarving seminars and attend woodcarving shows. His favorite venue to teach wood carving has become the International Wood Carver’s congress in Maquoketa\, Iowa. Ryan\, his wife\, and their four children\, live in Melba\, Idaho. \nHis philosophy on carving is “Good carving is just like good singing.  You have to work at it a little every day and you might as well learn from the best.

John taught me camera basics\, as well as how to develop and print photos. In those days we only shot in black and white\, something I continue to this day. In addition to working for Wartburg I began to shoot more artsy\, less-journalistic photos and was fortunate to have work published in publications like the Des Moines Register Sunday Magazine. I suppose it was during that time that I realized photography was an excellent medium for telling stories\, both as stand-alone photos and as photos accompanying written work. I am best known for my written work. \nMy first paid column was in 1970 when I was in high school\, a column that appeared in the Chicago Tribune. For more than 30 years my columns\, often accompanied by my photos\, have appeared regularly in the Chicago Tribune\, Chicago Sun-Times\, Baltimore Sun\, St. Louis Post-Dispatch\, Houston Chronicle\, Minneapolis Star-Tribune\, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The Iowan Magazine\, Des Moines Register\, Cedar Rapids Gazette\, Quad-City Times\, and Dubuque Telegraph Herald\, and others. In 2023 the Telegraph Herald will be publishing a 60-page ‘magazine’ of my columns and photos. All proceeds will benefit the Fund for Local Journalism. My photos alone have also been published in the Washington Post\, the Boston Globe\, and many other publications. \nWhat I do is classic “street photography\,” a form of art practiced for a long time by such luminaries as Robert Frank\, Vivian Maier\, Bruce Davison\, and many others\, all of whom have influenced my work. As a fan of the Iowa State Fair I proposed an idea for a photo book to the good folks at the University of Iowa Press and\, very quickly\, they responded favorably. They incorporated all of my suggestions. i.e. black & white photos\, format\, size\, number of essays. The only thing I was not allowed to choose? The cover photo! They loved the goat. The CEO/Manager of the fair\, Jeremy Parsons recently told me that “The Iowa State Fair” is a “wonderful book – incredible writing and stunning photos.”  \nThat sort of sentiment is why I’d like to make the photos available to as many in Iowa as possible. The fair is an important part of the history of the state and I believe I did a relatively decent job of bringing some of that history to life\, on a very personal level\, not just for me but for anyone who loves the fair. It’s a collection of snapshots that reveal oft-lost cultural and spiritual truths here in the heartland. In the end\, a state fair is about people\, people who participate and people who visit\, and I hope my photos appeal to both groups. It’s a ‘come with me\, take my hand\, let’s walk around and see what we can see’ approach to the art of photography.

SUMMARY:Andrea Van Wyk | Hope Creates | Exhibition & Artist Reception
DESCRIPTION:                           Andrea Van Wyk’s paintings will be on display from                             September 7\, 2023 through October 31\, 2023.\n              Meet Andrea and hear more about her story at an Artist Reception on            Friday\, September 8th from 5 to 7 pm.\nArtist Biography     \nAndrea is an artist who lives outside of Pella\, Iowa.  She does commissioned work for patrons as well as her own works of art.  During her 38 year career as an art educator\, her paintings demonstrated a wide range of media and techniques.  She participated in many workshops\, then shared those new found skills with her students.   She believed art history was an important aspect of art education and as she taught different artist techniques with her students\, she fell in love with the work of Georgia O’Keefe and Helen Frankenthaler.  She also became interested in architectural forms and how light and shadow played a crucial role in the composition like the work of Winslow Homer.   \nAndrea is working on a body of work depicting scenes from her travels as she continues to study and photograph the architecture\, nature and culture wherever she goes.  Andrea served as a teacher leader for a student ambassador organization which allowed her to travel with students to France\, Germany\, Spain\, Austria\, Switzerland\, Italy\, Greece\, Ireland\, Scotland\, Wales\, Australia\, and New Zealand where she was captivated with the art and architecture of all these cultures. \n                                  \n The daughter of a Reformed Church minister\, Andrea was influenced by urban culture on the East Coast as she grew up but appreciated the organic roots of her ancestors in the midwest\, learning the art of craftsmanship from her mother who loved gardening and quilting.  After moving with her family from the Catskills to Pella\, Iowa in 1976 and marrying a farmer in 1981\, she found herself painting her surroundings\, farm scenes and Pella’s historical Dutch architecture.   \nAndrea (Busker) Van Wyk was an Art Educator at Pella Community Schools from 1984 after graduating from Central College in Pella\, Iowa until May of 2022\, where she taught eight different exploratory art classes at the middle school and Art Appreciation at the high school for Des Moines Area Community College.  She taught the Methods of Teaching Elementary Art and Secondary Art Education at Central College from 1999 until 2021. Andrea has also taught Art at Pella Christian and Pella Community High School as well as summer classes at the Pella Community Art Center and for Upward Bound at Central College.   \n For most of her career\, Andrea was a member of the National Art Education Association and the Art Educators of Iowa.  She was involved with New Art Basics\, a research project through the Department of Art and Design at Iowa State University where she earned her Masters in Art Education in 1997.  She earned the status of Signature Member of the Iowa Watercolor Society and is currently a member of the Des Moines Paint Pushers group. \n Andrea and her husband\, Mike\, live on a farm east of Pella.  Mike continues to farm\, coach for Pella High\, and is a Farm Bureau Financial Services Agent.  They have two children\, Sarah Flaherty (married to Dan) with four grandchildren\, Anneke\, Quinn\, Graham\, and Rowan\, and a son Ross (married to Madelyn) Van Wyk.  Andrea’s future plans are to spend as much time as possible with her family and to paint every day.
