DESCRIPTION:Marie McDonough’s woodcarvings will be on display at Maquoketa Art Experience (MAE) from June 13th through 21st. A reception will be held at MAE on Wednesday\, June 17th\, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Special guests\, the Quad Cities Ukulele Club\, will perform beginning at 5 PM. The event is free and open to the public.\nPlease join us to view Marie’s detailed carvings and to enjoy hearing from her at the reception.\n                    \n \nAbout Marie McDonough:  \nMarie McDonough is a dedicated woodcarver and pyrographer whose artistic journey began in the 1980s. She learned the fundamentals of woodcarving while working alongside a master carver for six months—a formative path\, teaching herself new techniques and developing a style that reflects her independent\, “bullheaded” spirit. Marie has never been one for formal classes; she prefers to experiment\, explore\, and discover her own way forward. \nMost of her work and her passion is wildlife\, but she is always up for a good challenge. She says one of her most difficult carvings was the commission of a cervical spine for her Chiropractor. \nShe has been involved with Wood Carvers Congress for over 10 years\, including president for a few years. She has competed and won several ribbons with her wildlife carvings. \nThis year she is proud to be part of the instructors teaching at Congress. She will be teaching Pyrography in a 2-day and a 3-day class. \nAlthough she doesn’t enjoy taking classes\, Marie loves teaching them. Her approach centers on encouraging students to embrace their own creativity and originality. She provides guidance\, technique\, and support while allowing each person’s unique vision to shine through. Her goal is always the same: to help every student create a finished piece that feels personal\, meaningful\, and unmistakably theirs.

SUMMARY:Woodcarving Exhibit Featuring Dave Stetson
DESCRIPTION:Woodcarving Exhibit June 9 – 14\nDave Stetson is a full-time woodcarver who teaches his brand of caricature as an exaggeration of realism. His favorite subject matter is cowboys and human form\, with a smattering of animals\, all in round sculpture form. He also carves Santas and other holiday themes. He has won dozens of carving awards around the country\, including best of shows. His work will be on exhibit from June 9th to June 14th. \nArtist’s Reception\n📅 Date: June 11th\n⏰ Time: 5:30 – 7:30 PM\nA unique and fun Artist’s Reception is planned for June 11th. Beginning at 5:30 pm\, you can enjoy a performance by Quad Cities Ukulele Club\, which will be followed by Dave Stetson sharing about his passion for woodcarving and giving a demonstration. The reception is open to the public\, and refreshments will be served. \nThe exhibit and the reception are both free and open to the public. \n             \nAbout Dave Stetson: \n \nDave Stetson\, co-creator and founding member of CCA had a vision along with carving buddy Steve Prescott\, to form a group of top caricature carvers whose purpose would be to promote and elevate the public’s perception of caricature carving. That was in 1989 and along with 13 other guys and gal with the same purpose\, the CCA began. He served as the first CCA Vice President in 1990 & 1991 and followed in 1992 and ‘93 as President. \nDave is a full time woodcarver who teaches his brand of caricature as an exaggeration of realism. In order to exaggerate realism\, you have to know what realism is\, including anatomy\, proportion\, structure and form. His favorite subject matter is cowboys and human form with a smattering of animals\, all in round sculpture form. He also carves Santas and other holiday themes. He has won dozens of carving awards around the country. \nDave started carving in the fourth grade when he initialed the top of his school desk. Two weeks of sanding with ultra-fine sandpaper outside the principle’s office after school soon cured him of any love he might have had for relief carving. However\, in 1984 his love for carving wood resurfaced in the form of caricature. After 28 years in the printing industry and the abrupt closure of his printing plant\, Dave decided to give woodcarving a try as a living\, instead of just a hobby. And he’s been carving and teaching full time ever since. \nHis carvings are available for sale; he accepts commissioned work\, judges shows\, and teaches seminars around the country. \nHis work can be purchased directly with Dave at this exhibit or email him at lcnmichele@aol.
