ShinHyung Kim, originally from South Korea, is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy at the University of Iowa, studying with Dr. Ksenia Nosikova. She was a teaching assistant from 2015 to 2018at the University of Iowa. She received her Bachelor degree in Piano Performance from the Chung-ˇAng University in 2011, studying with Prof. Chiho Cho. During her undergraduate years, she earned the Honor Scholarships which were only given to three outstanding students. After earning her B.M. degree in piano performance from Chung-ˇAng University, Ms. Kim moved to the United States. She received her Master’s degree in Piano Performance at the Michigan State University in 2015, studying with Professor Deborah Moriarty. While studying at the Michigan State University, she got the the music scholarships and fellowship. In 2014, she was selected to perform in the Greater Lansing Community Concert Series.
Also, she worked as accompanist for youth choir at Community Music School in East Lansing(2013-ˇ2015). Ms. Kim has received numerous prizes including Second Prize winner in the United States International Piano Competition and finalist in the MTNA-ˇStecher and Horowitz Two Piano Competition (2018). Also, she won the Second Prize in the Haneum Piano Duo Competition (2009). She has performed in Korea, the United States, and Italy. She performed W.A. Mozart Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-ˇ flat Major, K.271 with National Symphony Orchestra in Korea. She has given numerous solo, chamber, lecture recitals at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Oaknoll Retirement Residence, Mercy Hospital, and Melose Meadows Retirement Residence, Lansing, East Lansing, and the University of Northern Iowa.
She has also participated in the master classes at Centro Studi Carlo Della Giocomain Todi, Italy. During her graduate study at the University of Iowa, she had a masterclass with professor Blanca Uribe, and attended a music festival, Musikfest (Faribault, Minnesota) in 2016.
