Description of workshop:
Workshop begins with a demonstration on using gouche in one painting and mineral spirits in another as an underpainting, then soft pastel’s applied to finish the work. The instructor will work from either a landscape photo or still life set up in classroom. We will discuss the importance of light source, light in shaded areas, and color harmony to create vibrant representational impressionistic work. Students will then create their own paintings with the instructor’s guidance. A brief critique of works is done at the end of the session. Hand-out material covering topics discussed is included for students.
UArt sanded paper (any grade) or type of pastel paper that wet application can be used on. Mount paper on foamboard, gatorboard, or masonite type of board. Can use Art Spectrum Colourfix primer or sheets too. (I will provide at least 1 9×12 art spectrum primed board for students)
Your own reference photos if you’d rather use those than instructors.
