Mixed Media Jewelry Workshop

Suzanne Rogers is an Irish Designer Maker from Dublin, Ireland. Working predominantly with metal, Suzanne creates pieces of art jewellery and small sculpture that are influenced by the rugged rural landscape in Ireland.
You will develop your own designs in response to a set of demonstrations and playful exercises. Participants will learn a variety of jewelry techniques including sawing, soldering and cold connections as well as a variety of surface finishes. By the end of the 3 days each participant will have a finished piece of jewelry.
Bring some of your own materials and discover how a range of different materials, such as wood, metal, photos, textile and found objects can be used to create mixed-media jewelry.
Materials List:Pencils, pens, notebook, super glue, small pliers and snips if you have them
A selection of found materials that you like / find interesting such as:
Plastic, metal, wire, wood, fabric, twine, paper

Tom Christopher |Pastel Painting and Beyond

9:00 am to 5:00 pm Each Day
Tom will begin each day of the workshop with a demonstration of pastel painting using various techniques for under-painting on gator board . The attending student artists will then receive instruction and prepare their own textured surface for pastel painting. Throughout the workshop, the artists will receive additional instruction on plein air painting as well as studio techniques. This workshop is also open to artists not currently working in pastel. The central focus of the instruction is on understanding value, color, and texture in the Midwest landscape.
The student are encouraged to bring photographs as well as plein air sketches to use as reference material. The instructor will also have photos for reference use.
Tom is careful to set aside sufficient time each day to provide individual instruction and goal planning for all student artists. Students are also encouraged to bring previous works for personal critiques and instruction.

Supply list
- Pastels bring as many as you normally use_medium to soft pastels works best. Terry Ludwig, Sennlier, Unison, Mt vision.
- Three or four 11×14 sheets of gator board or 4ply mat board. I order gator board through Uline shipping company. I will bring a limited supply.
- A small set of watercolors or acrylic paints and brushes.
- Landscape reference photos ..personal camera note : I have a good supply of reference photos
- Drop cloths …apron…blue rubber gloves as needed.
- Drawing pencils and/ or charcoal sticks.
- Pastel paper. I recommend Uart 400 to 500 grit.
- Personal easel or drawing board.

Introduction to Jewelry – Make your own earrings or pendant

Suzanne Rogers received her MA in Design (Metals) from The National College of Art Dublin in 2012. She has exhibited in Ireland and Europe including shows such as London Design Festival in England and Inhorgenta Munich in Germany. Her work has received many awards including The Design & Craft Council of Ireland’s Future Maker Award and The Royal Dublin Society National Craft Award. When Suzanne is not busy creating new designs, she teaches Metals and Art in Inchicore College of Further Education, Dublin.
The aim of this workshop is for participants to create their own piece of handmade jewelry. Over the three mornings of class, you will learn basic skills of jewelry making including filing, texturing, annealing, forming and polishing. You will create a piece of jewelry that you can take home and enjoy.
