SUMMARY:March & April 2026 | Pam Fetzner Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Pam Fetzner’s Art Will Be On Display During March & April 2026\nStop in to Maquoketa Art Experience to view Pam’s art in the South Gallery during March & April. Her art includes landscapes\, florals\, abstract\, and wildlife images.\nJoin us for an Artists’ Reception on March 7\, 2026 from 2 to 4 pm.\n \nABOUT PAM FETZNER:\nI’m an artist who’s absolutely in love with color. Whether it’s splashing vibrant hues across a canvas or creating digital wonders\, I’m all about capturing the joy\, beauty\, and energy of the world around us. I’ve been at this for over 30 years now\, and let me tell you\, the journey has been nothing short of amazing.\nMy artistic adventures began as a fun hobby—just me\, some paint\, and a wild imagination. Fast forward a few decades\, and what started as a personal escape has blossomed into a full-time creative passion. I’m mostly self-taught\, learning as I go\, experimenting with acrylics\, oils\, alcohol ink\, and digital tools. My work is a mix of landscapes\, flowers\, and anything else that catches my eye in nature. I’m drawn to the little details—the way light dances through the trees\, the burst of color in a field of flowers\, or the subtle textures that make everything pop.\nBut it’s not just about technique for me. My art is all about feeling—capturing moments that make you stop\, smile\, and maybe even see the world a little differently. I love playing with contrasts: light and shadow\, bold colors and soft tones\, structure and fluidity. Each piece is a little story\, a snapshot of a moment\, a splash of my personality on the canvas or screen.\nOver the years\, my work has made its way into galleries\, exhibitions\, and private collections around the world—something that still makes me pinch myself! But honestly\, I’m just a creative soul having fun\, always learning\, and forever chasing that next burst of inspiration. Whether I’m painting in my studio or crafting digitally\, I’m on a never-ending journey to explore\, evolve\, and share a bit of my colorful world with you.

When I hold a paintbrush in my hand\, I have a true\, quiet joy in my heart.  It’s a feeling akin to meditation: comfort\, peace\, confidence in my place in the world and wonder at the beauty in it. \nI was born and raised in Dubuque\, IA.\, worked as a mail carrier for 33 years and retired in 2013.  After taking painting lessons at our local art museum I considered it a lovely way to spend my time but in the past eight years things have changed for me! \nI took online lessons\, participated in Workshops and completed a Mastermind Mentorship Program with a wonderful teacher who really jumpstarted my vision and put Art in a whole new light. I have a Goal to reach Mastery Level before I leave this world and I work hard to achieve this! \nMy work is hanging in our artist’s co-op called The Collective in Elkader\, IA\, Galena Center For The Arts\, Pure Roots Gallery\, Dubuque Golf And Country Club\, and\, recently\, at Fritz And Frites Bistro in Galena\, IL.  I have also sold paintings through local shows\, online\, and at our yearly “Bluff Strokes Paint Out”.  I am a member of PPODs (Plein Air Painters Of Dubuque); spending many hours painting outdoors on site. I also belong to Oil Painters Of America\, American Impressionist Society\, and Galena Center For The Arts. \nI was honored to have my artworks accepted into shows with National Oil And Acrylic Society \, American Artists Professional League\, Missouri Valley Impressionist Society\, Light Space And Time Online Art Gallery\, Curator’s Juried Art Competition\, Randy Higbee 6″ Squared Online Exhibition and many local shows. \nTeaching at Galena Arts And Recreation\, Bluff Strokes Art Center\, and Asbury Library has been a great addition to my learning. \nIn the past\, my work has been exhibited at Carnegie Stout Public Library\, The Art Factory\, Adler Theater\, Weyland Gallery\, Bisignana Art Gallery\, Maquoketa Art Experience\, Art Domestique Gallery\, Sanford Museum\, Smokestack Art Gallery\, Maquoketa Brewing\, Riverview Hope And Healing Gallery\, The Left Bank\, Monroe Hospital Gallery\, and was part of the Iowa Artists Traveling Art Show in 2022 and Art Hop in 2023. \nAwards:\n2025 Bloomsbury Farms Paint Out/ DKW Gallery – First Place\n2024 LightSpaceTime 14th All Women Art Exhibition – 8th Place Overall\, 4th Place Paint Division for “Spectrum Of Colors”\n2024 LightSpaceTime 14th All Women Art Exhibition – Special Merit for “Beauteous”\n2024 LightSpaceTime 14th All Women Art Exhibition – Special Recognition for “Behind the Ballfield”\n2024 LightSpaceTime 14th Annual “Landscape” Art Exhibition – Honorable Mention\n2024 LightSpaceTime 14th Annual “Landscapes” Art Exhibition – Special Recognition\n2023 Iowa Artist Regional Show – Second Place\n2023 LightSpaceTime 13th Botanicals Exhibition – Special Merit and Special Recognition\n2022 Bluff Strokes Paint Out – Second Place “Outside the Box”\n2022 Missouri Valley Impressionist Society Associate Show – Third Place\n2021 Published Painting in Artist Magazine\n2021 Iowa Artists’ 50th Anniversary competition – Second Place\n2021 Iowa Artists’ Region 8 Show – Second Place + two Honorable Mentions\n2021 API Curator’s Juried Competition – Third Place\n2021 NOAPS Associates Online Exhibition\n2020 Art Domestique Small Works Show – First Place\n2020 September Boldbrush Contest – Fav 15\n2016 Bluff Strokes Paint Out Quick Paint- Third place

SUMMARY:July & August 2026 | Bottom of the Driftless | Photography by Phil Roeder
DESCRIPTION:Phil Roeder’s photography will be on display in the South Gallery at Maquoketa Art Experience during the months of July and August\, 2026.  \nThe public is invited to an Artists’ Reception on Friday\, July 10th from 5 to 7 pm.  Please join us and meet Phil Roeder\, as well as Andrew Raeside.\nCentered on a place called Wayward Farms\, Bottom of the Driftless documents the rhythms of a family\nhomestead\, the framing of adjacent fields\, the character of nearby towns\, and the encroaching wildness of surrounding woods and bluffs. It is a meditation on place\, weaving together themes of land and belonging.\nThe Driftless region of the American Midwest was left largely untouched by the glaciers of the last Ice Age. Along its southern boundary\, the landscape begins to shift\, from rolling farmland and flat prairie to a terrain of limestone bluffs and undulating hills. Perched here\, a limestone farmhouse stands as both a witness to and an artifact of the region’s changing economics\, culture\, and politics. Constructed as the American Civil War was coming to an end — of materials formed during the Paleozoic era — it has been home to the same family for more than 150 years\, built of stones some 400 million years in the making. \nIn his essay Revolt Against the City\, painter Grant Wood — a champion of Midwestern regionalism and a son of Iowa — wrote: “I believe in the Middle West in spite of abundant knowledge of its faults.” The faults Wood identified nearly a century ago ranged from stereotypes about rural people to the region’s historic prejudices and a conservative nature often at odds with its own self-interest. And yet\, he believed\, hidden within was a culture of creativity\, enterprise\, and resilience. Bottom of the Driftless holds to that same belief\, embracing the particular beauty of this place: its contradictions\, its endurance\, and its quiet insistence on being seen. \n       \nAbout the Author: \nPhil Roeder came to photography late in life and\, thanks to a combination of good fortune and dumb luck\, his work has been exhibited around the country and published around the world. Phil’s work has appeared in publications such as National Geographic Traveler\, the New York Times\, the Washington Post\, Time\, Ad Age\, Vice\, National Journal\, Mother Jones\, the Atlantic\, NPR\, Wired\, Forbes\, Vice\, Berliner Zeitung\, Le Monde\, Roll Call\, US News and World Report\, and other news outlets. His work has also been included in photography publications such as OAI13 (France) and Contraluz (Spain)\, and in books published by Edizioni Nuova Cultura (Italy)\, Bloomsbury (UK)\, and Palgrave Macmillan (UK). He has several photographs available for licensing through Getty Images. In 2023 his work was included in the artist Shepard Fairey’s book “Weathered” and in 2024 one of Phil’s photographs was featured on a postage stamp issued by the U.S. Postal Service. \nPhil has worked for nearly 40 years in public relations and communications\, primarily in and around the public sector\, most recently as director of communications for Des Moines Public Schools. Phil earned his BFA in photography from Arizona State University and completes an MA in photography from Falmouth University in August 2025. The images in this document were created as part of his Master’s degree work.

SUMMARY:July & August 2026 | Abstract Art of Andrew Raeside
DESCRIPTION:Andrew Raeside’s artwork will be on display at Maquoketa Art Experience during the months of July and August\, 2026. \nThe public is invited to an Artists’ Reception on Friday\, July 10th from 5 to 7 pm.  Please join us and meet Andrew Raeside Roeder\, as well as Phil Roeder.\n \nANDREW RAESIDE BIOGRAPHY AND ARTIST STATEMENT \n \n It hit me in an instant to become an artist at the age of 12. I remember the moment like yesterday. A sudden spiritual rebirth and everything had changed. I have been working on that project ever since.  \nI attended the University of Northern Iowa and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting in 1980. I worked with disabled adults for a time in Dubuque IA. Then I relocated to New England where I taught Art and Music in a residential grade school for children with emotional and behavioral disorders now called Spaulding Academy. While working there I attended Plymouth State University and received a Master of Arts in Teaching.  \nI worked at Spaulding Academy for 27 years until I retired and returned to Dubuque to focus again on painting and become a member of the artist community in Eastern IA. My main focus in the arts has been the Expressionist and Abstract Expressionist approaches. \nMy current objective is to use abstract art to celebrate what connects us all together. The New York School of Abstract expressionists is my primary influence. They spoke about a collective unconscious\, a concept held by psychologist Carl Jung. But it is not necessary to believe in anything magical to understand that we are all connected because we all have shared experiences. And we all respond emotionally to our experiences. When we look at a painting\, we respond emotionally to what we are seeing. Even if the painting is completely abstract and makes no reference to anything in the physical world. We may not be conscious of our reaction but if we are paying attention\, it is there. My wish is to make paintings that celebrate these emotional interconnections between us.

SUMMARY:May & June 2027 | Pastel Seasons of the Heartland | Tom Christopher
DESCRIPTION:Iowa landscape artist\, Tom Christopher\, will have his art on display in both galleries at Maquoketa Art Experience during the months of May and June 2027. \n \n  \nArtist Statement – Bio \n \nLiving in the Midwest has influenced my style of painting and choice of subject matter significantly. Many of my pieces depict very common scenes I have experienced.  As a child\, I spent countless hours playing on the riverbanks and wooded areas in Central Iowa. Even today\, I continue to be intrigued with nature and the way sunlight and shadows help define the landscape. I continue to spend my mornings  hiking and sketching the rugged landscape along the Iowa River near my home.  My goal is to paint relatively common scenes in a more dramatic and interesting way. Most of my finished works are the result of  reference photographs and on-location (plein-air) studies. \nI have worked primarily in pastels and oil paints.  I plan to continue to explore these two mediums and look forward to many more years of painting and conducting workshops. \nTom Christopher is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA) and \n Master Circle\,  International Association of Pastel Societies.
