Kurt Ullrich’s photography exhibit, entitled HOME, will be on display at Maquoketa Art Experience during January and February 2026. His work will be displayed in the South Gallery for all to enjoy.

“My family moved to Maquoketa when I was a small child, so while my Passport indicates I was
born elsewhere, and while I lived away for three decades, Maquoketa was the town of my
growing up, thus it is always home to me. For this exhibit I chose to simply look around my
hometown and photograph what interests me; a small U.S. Post Office I’ve known since I was a
kid, a grandfather steadying a horse ridden by his granddaughter, a courtroom where my wife
used to preside, Mt. Hope Cemetery on a flag-blowing Memorial Day, or, my own living room,
where two cats hold sway. It’s as simple as that.”
Ullrich’s photo exhibits have enjoyed residences at the Old Capitol Museum in Iowa City, Simpson
College in Indianola, Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Sioux City, Beverly Art Center in
Chicago, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, the Muscatine Art Center in
Muscatine, the Dubuque Museum of Art in Dubuque, Iowa, the State Memorial Union in Ames and, of
course, the Maquoketa Art Experience in Maquoketa.
In addition, his photos have appeared in the Washington Post, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune,
Minneapolis Star Tribune, Des Moines Register, Quad-City Times, Dubuque Telegraph Herald,
Cedar Rapids Gazette, and others.
