The Iowa Watercolor Society (IWS) was organized in 1977 by a small group of enthusiastic watercolorists. We have members all over the state and even a few from other states. Each spring and fall, we bring in nationally and internationally recognized artists to conduct workshop(s). Recent instructors include: Soon Y Warren, Michael Holter, Frank Eber and Alexis Lavine. At the fall workshop, along with its annual meeting, IWS sponsors a juried exhibition with monetary awards. From this exhibition, a 30-piece traveling show is selected to travel, throughout the following year, to various locations around our state. At these shows, our members often provide talks and/or small classes to introduce people to the medium of watercolor.
We conduct an online show once a year, giving our members an opportunity to display and sell their artwork to a larger audience. A miniature show is also held each year at a Des Moines venue.
The IWS Traveling Show will be on display through the end of January 2024 in the North Gallery
