Dr. Canlin Qiu(邱璨琳) is an active pianist and scholar. She recently earned her
Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano from the University of Iowa, where she held
teaching assistantships and fellowships. She previously received her master’s degree
from Indiana University and her bachelor’s degree from the China Conservatory of
Music.

She has performed internationally at venues such as the Federal University of Rio
Grande do Norte (Natal, Brazil), the University of Antioquia (Medellín, Colombia),
the Wiener Musikseminar (Vienna, Austria), and Orford Musique (Quebec, Canada),
as well as in Iowa concert series, including Key Change and Piano Sundays. She has
received first prizes in several competitions, including the Austria Mozart
Internationaler Klavierwettbewerb, the KAWAI Cup Youth Piano Competition, the
Jingzhu Cup Piano Competition and the CEKK Piano Competition. She has
collaborated with faculty from institutions including the University of North Texas,
the Central Conservatory of Music, the China Conservatory, and Indiana University,
and with musicians from major orchestras such as the China Philharmonic, Houston
Ballet Orchestra and Orchestra Iowa.

As both a performer and scholar, she actively explores Chinese contemporary piano
music through lecture-recitals and academic presentations. Her work has been
presented at conferences, including the MTNA Collegiate Symposium (University of
Oklahoma), the Midwest Graduate Music Consortium (University of Iowa), and
conferences at Roosevelt University, Western Washington University, Hofstra
University and the University of Kansas. She was recently awarded the Follet
Outstanding Student Scholarship Award by the CMS Northeast Chapter for her
conference lecture, and her doctoral dissertation was featured at the College Music
Society National Conference in October 2025.
